EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
"Rape is the most common violent crime on American college campuses." -- Nancy Chi Cantalupo, Assistant Dean (Clinical Programs) of Georgetown University

How common is sexual violence?

  • About 35 of every 1,000 women in college have reported being raped or experiencing an attempt at rape.
  • Approximately 31.5% of women and 16.1% of men who were raped since their 18th birthday also reported physical injury as a result of the rape.
  • In the first rape experience of female victims, 30.4% of perpetrators were reported to be intimate partners, 23.7% were family members, and about 20% were acquaintances.
  • Sexual violence is not acceptable. If you or someone you know is the victim of sexual violence, please seek help immediately.
